Price Cattle Co. runs 10,000 head across five properties centred at ‘Tarcoola’ in the Arcadia Valley north of Injune, with finishing country to the south in Mitchell and a breeding block to the north of Rockhampton.

The herd is transitioning to Fullblood Wagyu production, with land and animals alike managed according to Certified Organic standards.

The Price Cattle production system

Sustainable, safe and secure land management is at the heart of our grassfed production system, with new technology enabling production to be maximised without impacting groundcover, to ensure livestock thrive in their natural environment.

In 2017 Price Cattle Co. became one of the first operations to be certified under the Grazing Best Management Practice (BMP) program, which combined with their dedication to biosecurity and their Certified Organic status, makes their production system one of the cleanest and greenest in the country.

Satellite pasture monitoring has improved decision-making for stocking rates, feed budgets and land management, including identification of poorer areas of paddocks requiring soil or pasture remediation.

Optiweigh, a real-time in paddock weighing system, is in use to track the growth rates of both individual animals and the mob average, providing an early indication of pasture quality changes otherwise not visible to the naked eye.

Connecting the weight data to parentage information being collected via genomic testing is improving joining and selection decisions by identifying the most fertile and feed efficient lines.

Four properties within our portfolio are certified organic and audited annually against the most rigorous standards in the world for organic food production. Producing premium beef grown and processed without the use of synthetic chemicals, fertilisers or GMO’s is a proud achievement of Price Cattle Company.

We have also invested heavily in increasing the number of watering points, along with trough monitoring technologies, to decrease the distance to water for all animals and to reduce over grazing near troughs.

Bolstering the productivity of the Injune pastures has been the introduction of leucaena, which has almost doubled growth rates to 1.3kg/day.

Traditionally, we have produced Droughtmaster-cross progeny grown out to approximately 300-330kg (dressed weight) targeting the Jap-Ox market.

Price Cattle Company is now introducing a fullblood Wagyu herd, with calves backgrounded at Tarcoola before sale to feedlots on the Darling Downs.
